Crimson-Redline - Timecode is always TOD

Postby Jeff Brown on Tue May 20, 2008 4:09 am

Ian,

Having problems rendering out QTs through Redline. I want edgecode but which ever way I set the tick box (Edgecode/TOD Timecode) I end up with TOD Timecode in my renders. In both the FCP timeline using TC reader filter and in quicktime it shows up as TOD. I should mention that the camera recorded edgecode on the day and that my proxies in the fcp timeline using timecode reader filter show up as edgecode.

Using 0.9.2D

Also once redline is rendering through crimson how do I stop it when I realise something is wrong?....(Anything better than a manual power off would be better).

Any suggestions?

Cheers

I've noticed this as well. Did some testing with two RED clips, one with TOD code and one with Edge code set as the display code on the camera. What I think I've found is FCP, the Quicktime proxies, Compressor via proxies and RedCine (when doing Qts or DPX pulls) all see the code that was set on the camera display.

FCP Log and Transfer plug in and Redline (Redline being used through Crimson) will only see the TOD code.

I don't know about anyone else but this seems to be quite a big problem .....

I'm going to go out on a limb and say this is a Redline problem not a Crimson problem as far as the edgecode goes. If you look in the EXIF header you'll see Edgecode is making it in. It's just in the wrong place.

I need to multithread to make the Redline render abortable. I understand this need and it's coming in the new version.

How do you look in the EXIF header Ian?

So is there a setting somewhere in Crimson to try and make REDline use one timecode track or another? I don't see that option anywhere....

So this issue of REDline only seeing the time of day code when Edge code was clearly selected in the camera is something that RED has to fix right? This seems to totally torpedo our workflow on certain jobs. At least using Crimson to pull DPX files.
